Ludwig did not share a normal K3 with the Whittington brothers this time; these brothers had demolished their car a week ago so a car had to be built from a spare and Kremer’s spare parts suitcase. Stommelen shared a car with Barbour and Newman, but while the Germans were more or less from the same level, the Whittington brothers were clearly faster than Stommelen’s copilots. One of them smashed the car in the rails during the race, so they could finish second - behind Ludwig & Co.
The works March built BMW M1 had to pit for 30 minutes, but to no avail: the car retired with electrical problems.
