Bruno Giacomelli, Umberto Grano i Eddy Joosen – BMW 3.0 CSL.
Manfred Trint i Fred Rosterg – Audi 80 GTE.
This was the most exciting race since a very long while: after 300 km, the leading BMWs were seconds apart when Finotto stormed into the pits with a boiling radiator; only seconds later, Joosen entered the pit lane with exactly the same problem!
While frantic repairs were made, the Zakspeed car of Mohr took the lead. When Nussbaumer had taken over, he ran into an erratic Alfa and flatspotted his tire - the vibrations were so strong he could not keep up with the BMWs who race on full steam (sic) once again. Finally, only 9 seconds were between winners Giacomelli/Grano/Joosen and Finotto/Facetti with Mohr/Nussbaumer in third.
