Production under 1600 cc
While Ruitenbeek was fastest of the 1300 cc class with the everlasting Simca Rallye, but van Heulen finished on the podium with his Alfasud. The 1600 cc cars won the race overall, of course, with Kluvers (Golf GTI) ahead of Versteegh who drove a VW as well this year.
Production over 1600 cc
Rob Slotemaker’s 25th season started badly. His Group 5 mount broke down before the race; in the Production race, while leading his Camaro lost its brakes approaching Tarzan in lap 3, the hand brake did not work either, and only because he forced the car into a spin the car lost much of its speed, rolled and landed on the guard rails, with relatively little damage to the car and none to Rob himself; and last but not least it was discovered that this was in fact his 26th season.
After this incident, the race was won by Moritz ahead of Fresco and Hemmes, while Houthuyzen won the 2500 cc class. Few new cars in the field, apart from Koks (Capri) which retired early and the Opel Monza of Frankenhout - but this car was not ready yet, and Fred’s Commodore fell through at post race inspection.
Group 2-5
In its last season, the Benelux Group 2-5 field proved that the decision to axe it was right: Bourgoignie had no opposition at all, the 1600 cc was a joke and the 1300 cc class showed well-known cars - and I don’t want to take anything away from Antonides’ win; a fastest lap of 1.45,7 was very impressive and faster than ever before, as far as I know.
